The short version
- Right now we only collect your email address when you join the waitlist, so we can tell you when PimpMyLingo launches.
- We never sell your personal information.
- You can unsubscribe at any time, and ask us to see, correct or delete your information.
- When the app launches, we will also process your account, learning progress, payments and (if you use speaking practice) voice recordings, as explained below.
1. Who we are
PimpMyLingo is operated by Neil Smith (ABN 50 970 898 315), trading as PimpMyLingo ("we", "us", "our"). We are responsible for your personal information as described in this policy.
This policy applies to pimpmylingo.com, the waitlist, the PimpMyLingo app once it launches, and live lessons booked through us (together, the "Service"). We aim to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles, Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (PDPA) and, for people in the European Economic Area and the UK, the GDPR.
2. What we collect
Now: the waitlist and this website
- Your email address, when you join the waitlist, and which sign-up form you used.
- Technical information that your browser sends when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device type and the pages you request. Our hosting provider processes this to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
- Messages you send us through the contact form or by email: your name, email address, topic and message, plus the country your message was sent from.
When the app launches
- Account information: your name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), native language, English level and learning goals.
- Learning data: the cards you play and create, the scenarios you describe, flashcards, progress, scores and how you use the app.
- Voice recordings and transcripts if you use speaking practice (see section 4).
- Lesson information if you choose Personal training: booking times, attendance, and notes your coach makes about your progress.
- Payment information: your subscription plan and billing history. Card details are handled by our payment providers (such as Stripe, Apple or Google); we do not see or store your full card number.
Please do not include sensitive information (for example about your health, religion or finances) in scenarios you ask the AI to create.
3. How we use it
| Purpose | Information used | Legal basis (GDPR / PDPA) |
|---|---|---|
| Running the waitlist and telling you when we launch, including founding-member offers | Email address | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
| Providing the app, your deck, AI cards, voice playback and flashcards | Account and learning data, voice recordings | Performing our contract with you |
| Running Personal training lessons and planning them around your practice | Account, learning and lesson data | Performing our contract with you |
| Taking payments and keeping financial records | Billing information | Contract and legal obligation |
| Keeping the Service secure, preventing spam and abuse, fixing problems | Technical information | Our legitimate interests |
| Improving the Service, using aggregated or de-identified statistics | Usage data | Our legitimate interests |
| Answering your questions and support requests | Contact details and messages | Our legitimate interests or contract |
We only send marketing emails if you have joined the waitlist or otherwise agreed. Every email includes a link to unsubscribe.
4. Voice and AI features
- When you use speaking practice, your microphone is only used while you are recording. Your recording is converted to text so we can show which words you said clearly and which became flashcards.
- The host's voice is generated by a text-to-speech provider. AI conversations and translations are generated by AI model providers using the scenario you describe and your level.
- We only send these providers what is needed to produce the result. We choose providers that do not use your content to train their models, or we turn that option off where it is available.
- We do not use your voice recordings to train AI models, and we do not use your voice to identify you.
- Voice recordings are deleted within 30 days of being processed, unless you choose to keep them in the app (for example to compare your progress). Transcripts stay with your learning history until you delete them or your account.
5. Who we share it with
We never sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run PimpMyLingo, under agreements that require them to protect it and use it only for our instructions:
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosts the website and protects it from abuse |
| Resend | Stores the waitlist and sends our emails |
| Google Fonts | Delivers the fonts on this site (your browser requests them directly from Google) |
| Payment providers (e.g. Stripe, Apple App Store, Google Play) | Process subscription payments, once the app launches |
| AI and voice providers (e.g. ElevenLabs and an AI model provider) | Generate voices, conversations, translations and speech feedback, once the app launches |
| Video call provider ([VIDEO PLATFORM]) | Hosts Personal training lessons |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a sale or restructure of the business (in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information).
6. International transfers
Our service providers operate in several countries, including the United States and the European Union, and we work from outside Australia. This means your information may be processed outside your own country. When it is, we take reasonable steps to make sure it is protected to a standard similar to this policy, for example by using providers that offer standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.
7. How long we keep it
- Waitlist: until you unsubscribe, or 24 months after launch if you have not created an account, whichever comes first.
- Account and learning data: for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify this information within 30 days, except for backups, which are cleared within a further 60 days.
- Voice recordings: as described in section 4.
- Billing records: for as long as tax and accounting law requires (usually 5 to 7 years).
- Server logs: usually no longer than 30 days.
8. Cookies and local storage
This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. After you join the waitlist, we save a small note in your browser's local storage so the site remembers you have already joined and doesn't ask again. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings. If we add analytics or other non-essential cookies in future, we will update this policy and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information;
- withdraw your consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing from emails;
- object to, or ask us to restrict, certain uses of your information;
- receive your information in a portable format.
To use any of these rights, email us at hello@pimpmylingo.com. We will reply within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first. We won't charge you, unless a request is clearly excessive.
10. Children
PimpMyLingo is for people aged 16 and over. Learners aged 16 or 17 need a parent or guardian's permission to subscribe, and a parent or guardian must agree before any Personal training lessons. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and reputable service providers. No method of sending or storing data is completely secure, but if a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.
12. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy as PimpMyLingo grows, in particular when the app launches. We will change the date at the top, and if a change is significant we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
13. Contact and complaints
Questions or requests: hello@pimpmylingo.com.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can try to fix it. You can also complain to your local regulator, for example the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au), Thailand's Personal Data Protection Committee (pdpc.or.th), or the data protection authority in your EU country or the UK (ico.org.uk).
This policy is written to explain clearly how PimpMyLingo handles personal information. It does not limit any rights you have under the privacy laws that apply to you.
